Visit Bean Point on Your Anna Maria Vacation

On your next visit to Anna Maria Island, there will be plenty to discover. From the white sand beaches to the mouthwatering seafood and unique shopping destinations, there’s a little something for everyone.

About

Bean Point is Anna Maria Island’s northernmost shoreline. It’s named after George Emerson Bean, who was the first permanent resident of the island. Bean Point as we know it today is actually on a secluded section of beach that used to be Bean’s property. There aren’t any big signs or advertisements directing you to Bean Point, so many visitors to AMI don’t even know it exists.

Directions

To reach Bean Point on Anna Maria Island, you’ll need to head north. Make your way to Gulf Drive, which is one of the main roads throughout the island. You’ll then turn right onto Pine Avenue and left onto North Shore Drive. You’ll then follow this street until you reach the end of the island.

You’ll find the main entrance at the crossroads of North Shore Drive and North Bay Boulevard. Look out for a tree-lined path that runs between two properties that are north of the mentioned intersection. You can also enter Bean Point at the corner of North Shore Drive and Gladiolus Street or at the corner of North Shore Drive and Fern Street. At any of these three entrances, a small white sign that reads “Public Beach Access” will direct you to Bean Point.

You are welcome to drive to Bean Point and park in some of the street parking spots available on Fern Street and Gladiolus Street. There are also some spots on Jacaranda Road near the footbridge entrance. Do be aware of any “No Parking” signs and ensure your tires are off of the main street.

Things to Do

Bean Point is one of the most relaxing beaches on Anna Maria Island. It hasn’t been packed with amenities like some of the island’s other beaches and remains mostly untouched. There’s always a spot on the shoreline for you to layout your blanket or bring a beach picnic to enjoy with your sweetheart. Bean Point also boasts some of the most incredible views on the island, particularly if you visit at sunset. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and Egmont Key State Park.

Shelling is another great option for your time at Bean Point. This activity is best at low tide when you can reach the sand bar just off of the coast. There are tons of seashells for you to collect, which can make for an incredibly unique (and free!) souvenir. Finally, many people enjoy visiting Bean Point to watch the local wildlife, namely the stunning bird species.

Where to Stay

Once you’ve had an incredible afternoon sightseeing and relaxing at Bean Point, you may want to head back to your rental for a movie night or to get freshened up for dinner. Our Anna Maria Island vacation rentals are the ideal option whether you’re traveling solo or are bringing the whole family to AMI.
