Pier 60 offers daily festivals from 5-9, featuring artisans, crafters, street performances, family activities all surrounded by on of the most famous beaches in Florida. Add the magnificent sunset, and fishing opportunities and you’ll understand why this is an all day event.
The weekends offer family fun with a free movie against an inflatable backdrop. Bring your blankets and chairs, and picnic treats, or purchase your favorite Movie concessions from the Beach stand. The recreational park and covered playground are the perfect place to wear out energetic youngsters.
Outside the park, along the sand, is Bungee jumping, inflatable slides and random celebrities, like Spiderman, Elmo and other performers here to brighten your experience. Take your picture with a Pirate, have your hair custom designed with colorful threading, or be dazzled by the street performances.
Be aware that most of the entertainers are there to earn a living, and appreciate a well deserved tip. The park also features restrooms and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 364 days of the year.
I enjoy the crafters, showing their Coastal inspired creations, that allow you to bring a piece of the beach home. Hand made items include Jewelry, nightlights, from seashells, photos, paintings, sculpting and even blown glass. It’s a beautiful stroll down the pier, enjoying sea breezes and colorful sunsets. Stop in the Pier Bait House, for t-shirts, sunglasses, hats and souvenirs, and of course, bait and tackle, just in case you decide to try your hand at reeling in some fresh seafood. Depending on the season, you could bring in Tarpon, Mackerel, Jack, Trout, the elusive Snook, Redfish, and my favorite, Flounder. Bring in the sunset, watching the boaters or even a pirate ship returning to harbor.
Adorning the landscape of the Clearwater area, are a selection of uniquely designed, Sea Turtle and Dolphin statues. A stroll through town can become a game of I Spy with your family. Across the Street from the Pier, you will find, beach boutiques, specialty shops, Gourmet Italian Gelato, and a smorgasbord of seafood and crowd pleasing pubs and restaurants.
